CareMatters underwriting updates

In an effort to further streamline the underwriting process for CareMatters, the minimum age for the cognitive screening will be raised from age 5 to age 60 for all states except NY. In addition, outside of the routine process of ordering medical records for California CareMatters cases, the CareMatters Underwriter now has the flexibility to order and pay for a single set of medical records if warranted for a borderline case. The CareMatters Underwriter will identify the borderline cases and offer to order medical records for the possible further consideration. If it is determined that multiple sets of medical records would be needed to develop the history for possible CareMatters consideration, these applications will continue to be a decline for CareMatters under the streamline underwriting process, and any possible further consideration would be on an appeal basis with the medical records and any other supporting information provided at no expense to Nationwide for review.
